This kit is mainly used for the in vitro qualitative detection of Parvovirus B19 antibodies in human serum or plasma samples.
The B19 virus was originally discovered from a blood donor in 1975 by Cossart. B19 virus is made of single linear DNA with capsid protein, the virus’ diameter is 23 nm, the genome is 5.6 kb long, and it’s without a cyst membrane. The B19 virus invades human hematopoietic system with incubation period of 1 to 2 weeks. The B19 virus spreads through respiratory passage, intimate contact, blood, mother and baby contact and organ transplant. The B19 virus can cause erythema infectiosum in children, rheumatic arthritis in adult, aplastic anemia symptom for hemolytic anemia patients and red cell aplasia symptom for immune suppressed patients. Pregnant women who are infected with the B19 virus can acquire intrauterine infection through placenta, which can affect the fetus with symptoms such as anemia, edema, and death.
